PTA Board Roles & Responsibilities

In addition to primary responsibilities, each board member is expected to attend monthly PTA meetings, and 1 - 2 board
meetings each month. Board members will also be expected to participate on event committees which will increase time
commitment during peak times.

President
Primary Responsibilities:
• Foster process for establishing key priorities and directives for the school year, including PTA sponsored events and
fundraisers
• Advocate on behalf of students
• Foster inclusive environment for membership
• Support membership growth and retention
• Plan and run monthly PTA meetings
• Plan and execute annual elections process
• Manage the PTA board, plan and run board meetings
• Establish committees, solicit volunteers for key PTA activities throughout the year
• Ensure committees and volunteers understand their responsibilities and assigned budget
• Ensure committees and volunteers fulfill commitments/ responsibilities in a timely manner, within budget
Weekly Commitment*:
• 5 - 6 hours per week

Vice President
Primary Responsibilities:
• Support all Presidential responsibilities
• Stand in for President as needed
• Take lead position in key events
Weekly Commitment*:
• 3 - 4 hours per week

Treasurer
Primary Responsibilities:
• Establish budget, foster budget approval process
• Manage budget, report status monthly
• Day-to-day fiscal management, including monitoring expenses, prompt deposit of check payments, producing any needed reimbursements, capture and maintain all necessary financial records
• Financial reporting, including annual tax reporting and PTA audit
Weekly Commitment*:
• 3 - 4 hours a week

Secretary - Board Manager
Primary Responsibilities:
• Set and manage board schedule
• Manage organization calendar
• Produce monthly newsletter
• Maintain key supporting documents throughout the school year, (e.g., committee work plans, key mailers) for use by future boards 
• Assist treasurer with establishment of electronic payment interfaces when necessary
• Weekly Commitment*
• 3 - 4 hours per week
 
Secretary - Communications
Primary Responsibilities
• Manage social media presence 
• Manage mail communications
• Produce PTA communications and mailers
• Provide and distribute all meeting minutes in a timely manner
• Assist treasurer with establishment of electronic payment interfaces when necessary
• Weekly commitment*
• 3 - 4 hours per week
